Seating Arrangements

Seat the players randomly. Any method that results in a random seating arrangement at a table is acceptable. One simple method to use is for the host to mark each chair at a table with a number and each table with a suit. The players then draw one card from a standard deck of shuffled cards and this determines their seating position. The player who draws a four of Spades will sit at position four at the table designated Spades.

Any other method you can think of can be used to seat the players; as long as the outcome is a random seating.

Player Movement

In multi-table tournaments as play goes on and players are eliminated you create a problem. The problem is that different tables in the tournament have different numbers of players playing poker and the tables have become unbalanced. Balancing the tables requires that players be moved from table to table so that all the tables have the same number of players at them. For example; if one table in the tournament is reduced to 8 players while another table has 10 players, it is time for a table rebalance. Rebalancing is accomplished by moving players away from the fuller table to the table that has fewer players. The tournament organizer should make every attempt when moving the players to avoid moving them to positions where they encounter consecutive blinds or buttons. The easiest way to accomplish this is to try to move the players to the same table position that they had at their old table. For example, when moving players from table B to table A, you would try to move player #3 from Table B to position #3 at table A assuming that position is vacant.

While there is no formula to use in moving players you want to keep the impact on them to a minimum. One way to minimize the disruption to the players is to keep them at the same table position when moving them from table.
